The town of Levanto has an ancient foundation, nestled in a valley covered with olive trees, vines and pines and directly overlooking the sea. The ridges of the valley end in the sea with the promontory of Mesco and the tip of Levanto. Already in Roman times there was a small village called Ceula [, located on the hills corresponding to the current Montale area, which was a strategic node of great importance by virtue of its location along the Via Ligurum [4], an ancient pre-Roman and that passed near the coast. In 476, with the fall of the Western Roman Empire, the Roman village of Ceula was also subjected to the Byzantine Empire [and then to the Lombards.

At the beginning of the ninth century, at the same time as the Carolingian era [4], the bell tower of the parish church of Ceula, today's parish church of San Siro in Montale, served as a watchtower and defense against the incursions of the Saracens from from the sea. With the imperial diploma of Federico Barbarossa, dated to 1164, the primitive coastal town of Levanto, mentioned for the first time in an official document, is confirmed as a feudal property of the Malaspina family.

Today Levanto is a very popular destination among those who love surfing, but the blue and clear water make it a perfect destination for those who love doing nothing on the shore ... The uniqueness of the village is also proven by the inclusion of a part of its territory in the Cinque Terre National Park, established in 1999. Within the National Park there is also a protected marine area, because the Ligurian Sea has a unique feature: it boasts an extraordinary richness and variety of animal and plant species. In the waters of Levanto it is not unlikely to spot dolphins and a little further offshore and with a little luck the whales.
